Good Evening!
Who knew that September was such a patriotic month?
September 22nd marks the 145th anniversary of President Lincoln announcing that any state or county, that did not rejoin the Union by January 1st, 1863, would find their slaves “freed from bondage”. Sadly that meant slave states like Delaware, Kentucky, Maryland, Missouri, and West Virginia were allowed to keep their slaves until slavery was abolished for good by the ratification of the 13th Admendment on December 18th, 1865.
It’s heartbreaking to know that there’s a chance that slavery would still be in existence if the South had not ceded themselves from the Union.
