The Back of My Mind

In the back of my mind
I hear his little voice.
"You are lazy."
"You are worthless."
"I'm throwing good money after bad."
"You are no better than a junkie."
He does not like me nor
The choices I make.
He does not respect me and
He has taught me to not respect myself.
He has also taught me to feel fear and
How to feel shame.
All I have left is hope.

  1. Wow, this is a really powerful piece. I can really relate to it, especially the phrases the mind tends to replay over and over. Thanks for posting it!!

  2. You are welcome. I'm glad you like the poem. I'm working to improve my
"poetic voice" as well. I'll try to post more as soon as I am able ;)
