Yay! Today is the day of Preakness Stakes. While I’m waiting for the race, I looked up some facts at Wikipedia.org:
# The Preakness’s first race ever was in the Pilmico Racecourse in Baltimore, MD, full two years before the Kentucky Derby was ever run.
# George “Spider” Anderson is the first African-American jockey to win the Preakness in 1889.
# The Preakness was run at two different tracks in in New York state-- the Morris Park Racetrack in Bronx, and the Gravestand track in Brooklyn.
# Because 26 horses entered the Preakness Stakes in 1918, the race was run in two divisions, which resulted in two winners.
